FSPI - INA

“FSPI Cine América Central” is an ambitious project funded by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France in 2022-2024, with the goal of boosting the film industry in Central America. The three lines of actions were: film production, film preservation, and the public governance of film.

I was an assistant consultant for audiovisual preservation. Together with the project manager, we visited 8 archives in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Panama and Costa Rica.  A comprehensive report was created for each institution analyzing its history, collections, equipment, storage conditions, human resources, public, management, needs, etc.

In a second phase our goal was to improve the dynamic of collaboration among these institutions and the rest of the members of Red CAPFA, the network of film archives of Central America and the Caribbeans. Together with the different teams, we tried to identify each one’s assets and needs, common problems and asymmetries, as well as the strengths, challenges, opportunities and risks of working within a collaborative regional network.

A set of onsite and online training and seminars was organized through 2023 and 2024 with international experts.

The impact evaluation report will be published by the end of 2024.
